Heeg wins again, that's par for the course

Two tournaments to report from the past week concerning the Kimball High boys' golf team and two more outstanding performances by senior Henry Heeg.

On April 22, the Longhorns participated in the Morrill Tournament and Heeg shot a round of 37-38=75 to finish 3rd, actually one stroke behind team mate Jordan Greenwood who shot his season best round of 38-36=84 to take second place honors. Michael Ferguson had his best day also with a round of 84, just one place out of the top ten medal group. Spencer Shields shot 107 and Kyle Spicer 110 and Kimball had a team score of 340, also their season best, to finish 4th. Mitchell won the tournament with 331, Bayard shot 333, Chadron 337, Kimball 340, and Bridgeport 345 with everyone else 400 or higher. Coach Chad Wise was ecstatic with the play of his team saying, "We dropped over 75 strokes today from our first meet of the year. We had 16 three putts from among all of our players."

In five tournaments played, Heeg has not been out of the 70s, and his best day came on this past Saturday at the Alliance Invitational where he was medalist for the third time this year, winning with an even par 72 claiming victory over Bayard's Trae Blanco after Heeg birdied the first hole of a playoff when Blanco also shot 72. Heeg is certainly on top of his game and is enjoying perhaps the best start by a Kimball High golfer ever!

Bayard won top team honors in Division II shooting 318, followed by Mitchell with 335, Bridgeport 350, Kimball 373, Mullen 399, Hemingford 422, and Gordon-Rushville 488. Another solid day for freshman Jordan Greenwood with his round of 79 for 5th place in the individual medal standings. Ferguson shot 106, Spicer 116, and Shields 126. Interesting to note that Heeg's 72 was just one stroke back of the winning round of 71 in Division I, shot by Koy Potthoff of Scottsbluff.

Kimball will be back in action today (Thursday) at the postponed Scottsbluff Tournament that was delayed from Monday because of inclement weather conditions. Tee time at the Scottsbluff Country Club Course is 9 a.m. Tomorrow (Friday) Kimball will host the SPVA tournament on their Four Winds home course with a 10 a.m. tee time. Saturday they load their bags and head to Gordon for the Western Trails Conference Tournament with a 9 a.m. start. Busy weekend for the Horns!
