Kimball wrestlers place six at Sidney tournament

The Kimball High wrestling team placed sixth as a team, and had wrestlers place at the Sidney/Bridgeport Invitational Tournament hosted by Sidney prior to the Holiday break. Coach Wade Brashear commenting on the success of his team at Sidney said “Overall we had a good showing in Sidney. We were missing three wrestlers which really hurt us on team points.

We seemed to start a little sluggish, but we ended the day well”. Place winners were Rowdy Keller 3rd at 113, Ryan Garrett 3rd at 120, Logan Stahla 4th at 126, Colt Lewis 2nd at 138, and Eric Escajeda 4th at 285.

Tracking the individual results of Kimball’s wrestlers show Rowdy Keller winning 6-3 over Jack Federson of Sidney, losing 4-0 to state ranked Drew Gilliland of Mitchell, winning by pin in 4:42 over Brandon Bush of Ogallala, and winning 7-0 over Fedderson of Sidney in a rematch.

Garrett Ryan at 120 lost by pin to Dalton Zimmerman of Mullen in 3:12, won by pin in 1:52 over Jason Bush of Ogallala, and won by pin in 2:02 over Zac Swanson of Mitchell.

Logan Stahla at 126 won by pin in 2:56 over Jerrick Ross of Minatare, won by pin over Preston Bowers of Hyannis in 2:12, lost by pin to Toray Smith of Ogallala in 1:25, and lost by pin in 3:23 to Toray Smith of Ogallala.

Justin Mohr at 132 won by pin in 1:47 over Eduardo Nevarez of Hemingford, lost a 9-3 decision to Ty Sutphen of Hyannis, lost by pin in :31 to Austin Krier of Sterling, and pinned Nevarez of Hemingford in 2:30.

Colt Lewis at 138 pinned Cobe Hinton of Ogallala in 1:06, won 9-3 over Robert Ellis of Minatare, won 3-0 over Wesley Christensen of Bridgeport, and lost 6-0 to Eric Krier of Sterling in the championship match.

Ruger Lewis at 145 lost by pin in 4:38 to Abe Hernandez of Mitchell, and lost by major decision 20-10 to Josh Cinocco of Minatare.

Javier Figueroa at 170 won by pin in 2:46 over Marquis Droddy of Mitchell, lost 10-1 to Jerrod Fedorchik of Bridgeport, lost 8-4 to Jared Washa of Ogallala, and lost 5-2 to Washa of Ogallala.

Eric Escajeda at 285 won 4-2 over Bailey Branson of Mitchell, lost by pin in 2:18 to Fabian Soto of Sterling, and lost by pin in 2:52 to Dominic Beyer of Sidney.

Next action for the Kimball Wrestlers is the Garden County Tournament on January 11 with a start time of 9 a.m. They will host Lingle and Morrill on the home mats on January 16.
