Dona J. Buchanan, 82, of Harrisburg, died at the Kimball Health Services on Friday, December 20, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball with Pastor Ken Boston officiating. Burial will be in the Kimball Cemetery. Friends may view Dona’s Book of Memories and leave condolences for the family at http://www.cantrellfh.com. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to the Kimball County Manor. The services for Dona have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.

Dona June Buchanan was born in Kimball on June 25, 1931, the daughter of George and Thelma (Abbott) Bradt. She was raised and attended school in Kimball and graduated from the Kimball High School in 1949. Upon completing high school she enrolled in nurses training in Pocatello, Idaho, where she studied for a year. She then moved back to Kimball and worked at Kimball Health Services. While at Cheyenne Frontier Days she met Clarence C. Buchanan, Jr. and they were married on October 19, 1952 in Kimball. Dona worked as a homemaker taking care of her family while her husband worked for Halliburton and H.C. Smith Construction and traveled to many surrounding states. They lived in Missouri and Chadron for a short time before moving back to Banner County. She loved horses, cats, cooking, flowers and gardening. She liked music and was a very good singer and had sung for many weddings and funerals in the area. Her family was always important to her and she especially liked her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her sons Stephen (Amanda) Buchanan of Mexico, and John Buchanan of Harrisburg; daughters LaDona (Roger Lee) McGowan of Harrisburg, and Constance Banes of Cave Junction, OR; brothers Jack (Cherry) Bradt of Keystone, SD, and Jay Bradt and companion Shirley Harding of Chadron, NE; 2 nieces, 1 nephew, 6 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother John and one grandson Thaddeus Banes.
