Huff resigns as County Assessor

Life is an interesting journey, it does not have a map with which one can navigate through effortlessly, it is more like uncharted territory. More is discovered the longer one lives, and the more one experiences. So when a new place to explore is discovered sometimes that is the place to go.

Assessor Deborah Huff’s life is taking her on a new journey. She moved to Kimball in 1956, then to Denver, CO in 1970, and back to Kimball in 1998. She has lived here since and has only positive things to say about Kimball.

“The people in Kimball are such good people and such hardworking people, friendly and helpful. When I first came back to Kimball couldn’t get over how friendly everyone was I will miss that.” Huff said.

Huff has spent the last three years serving as the Kimball County Assessor and in that time has enjoyed her work and the people there.

“It’s a pleasure to come to work mainly because of my staff,” Huff said

Some time ago she visited her brother, who lives in the Anthem community in Arizona, and decided to look for a house in anticipation of retirement. Huff and her husband found a place in Florence, AZ.

So after three years of serving Kimball County as the Assessor she handed in her resignation. As of January 1, 2014, she will no longer be the Assessor and will be retiring to Arizona.

The County Commissioners discussed what action to take concerning finding a replacement for Huff, believing that for the time being, while searching for a replacement, the office would best be served by having Fran Janicek fill in the vacancy if a replacement is not found by January 1.

“Fran Janicek, will be filling in, she’s the Deputy Assessor. She’ll fill in if the board has not appointed somebody by the time I leave. She has worked in the office for over twenty years, so she knows what she’s doing,” Huff said.

The Board of Commissioners hope to have found someone before January 1, so that they can take over once Huff is gone. In the event that they do not appoint a new Assessor January 1, Deputy Assessor, Fran Janicek, will take to office to perform the duties as the acting County Assessor, but the Board must appoint a new Assessor within forty-five days of January 1.
