Weather reduces Class C State Golf to just one day in Columbus

Foul weather, including threeinches of rain on Monday, cancelled the first day of the Girl’s Class C Golf Tournament reducing it to just a one day and 18-hole affair on Tuesday at the Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus.

The weather on Tuesday improved enough to hold the 18 hole play but was a far cry from being enjoyable and the girls had to battle not only each other and the golf course but strong winds in the 30 mile plus range and temperatures of 41 degrees when Kimball’s first golfers teed it up.

A young lady from Auburn shot an even round of 80 to easily win the individual championship with the 2nd place round for the silver medal at 90.

Kimball senior Brooke Hager led Kimball with her round of 98 which was a tie for 17th and just two strokes out of the top 15 medal group. Breanna Jones shot 109, and Hannah Walker saved her best golf for her last time out as she shot a career high round of 106 despite the terrible weather conditions. Jaycie Walker shot 133 and is the lone member of the team returning next year as the other three are all seniors.

There was a three way tie for top team honors at 406 and at the time of this writing, they were playing off to decide the winner.

Kimball shot a team score of 446, which tied the score shot Bridgeport and was 13 strokes better than Chadron’s 459. Emily Snyder of Mitchell finished in the 3rd place spot for individual honors with her 91 round.

The weather for the state tourney was about the only disappointing happening to the 2013 season for first year head coach Nora Robinson and the Kimball High girls.

The season was amazing with the highlight of course being a district championship for the team, and an individual championship for Brooke Hager who made her fourth consecutive trip to the State Tournament.

Hager also shot the low round of 87 from all of the Class C districts thus giving her the low round individually going into the state tournament.

All of us at the Observer, and speaking for all of our readers, we congratulate coach Robinson and the Lady Longhorns on a great season. You three seniors will truly be missed!
