Magel H. Suhr

Magel H. Suhr, age 92, longtime area resident passed away Thursday, September 12, 2013 at the Indian Hills Care Center in Ogallala.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M. MST Tuesday, September 17th in the Sidney Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Leonard Suhr officiating. Burial was at 1:00 P.M. CST Wednesday, September 18th in the West Cedar Valley Cemetery north of Elgin, NE.

Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Monday from 1-7:00 P.M.

Memorial contributions may be made in care of the family. A memorial is being established in Magel’s name.

Magel Helena Suhr, the daughter of Otto Maxmillion and Zella Merle (Condon) Emde, was born on May 8, 1921 at Oakdale, NE. She graduated from Elgin High School with the Class of 1939.

On August 9, 1942, Magel was united in marriage to Gustav Martin Suhr at Elgin. Magel helped on the farm and raised her children before working at local restaurants and with the Foster Grandparents Program.

Following a move to the Sidney area, Magel was a housekeeper at a local Sidney Motel. Following several moves, she relocated to the Norfolk, NE area in 1993 and then Oshkosh in 2010 before entering the Indian Hills Care Center in Ogallala in 2011.

Magel loved to crochet and be involved in anything her family was doing.

Survivors include: (1) daughter: Edna Hartman and husband Dallas of Oshkosh; (3) sons: Glenn Suhr and wife Mitzi of Scribner, NE, Gary Suhr and wife Ira of Gothenburg, NE and Leonard Suhr and wife Linda of Lodgepole, NE; (1) sister-in-law: Lois Emde of Grand Island, NE; (36) grandchildren, (39) great-grandchildren and (14) great-great-grandchildren.

Magel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gus, (1) brother: Melvin, (1) sister: Leona and a daughter-in-law: Judy Suhr.
