Lois Jean Halstead

Lois Jean Halstead, age 91, left this life to be with her Savior on July 11, 2013. Services for Lois Jean will be Saturday, July 20, 2013 . Cremation has taken place.

Interment will take place at 9:00 AM in the Potter Cemetery with a memorial service to follow at 10:30 AM at First English Lutheran Church in Kimball with Pastor Ed Hunzecker officiating.

Friends may visit http://www.cantrellfh.com to view the obituary and leave condolences for the family. Memorials may be made to First English Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. The services have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.

Lois Jean was born on her Grandpa Nelson’s homestead in southeast Kimball County to Chris (Nels Christian) and Emma (Wittig) Nelson on March 26, 1922.

She attended country schools through 8th grade, graduated from Dix High School in 1939, and from Chadron State College in 1943. Lois Jean married Eldon Halstead on July 22,1945.

Together they farmed and ranched on the farm where she grew up. She moved to Vista Villa in 2007.

She was a member of First English Lutheran Church. She enjoyed Jolly Neighbors Club, Garden Club, Lutheran Church Women, Neighborettes Extension Club, Nebraska Cattle Women, Prominaders Square Dance Group and the Kimball Red Hatters. She loved quilting with her friends at the Senior Friendship Center. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She followed their activities and accomplishments. It was not uncommon to see her at ball games, concerts, or at the fair. She lived life to the fullest.

Survivors include her sister Loraine Brauer of Sidney, daughter Janet (David) Bashaw of Dix, son Bryce (Linda) of Kimball, grandchildren Krista (Bob)Schwartz, David (Sarah)Bashaw, Michelle (Jason)Nielsen, Laura (Brian)Gaffney, Cheryl (Teldon)Bohlender, and Mark (Ashley)Halstead. Great grandchildren: Christopher and Katelyn Schwartz , Faith, Landon, and Ava Nielsen, Benson and Blake Bohlender , and Nora Gaffney. Lois Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Chris and Emma Nelson; son, Ronald, granddaughter, Shari Jo and husband, Eldon.
