With the various local meets in the rearview mirror, track and field athletes from across Nebraska have a new goal in sight: the State Competition.
In the 4x100 meter relay, Shelby Vogel, Madison Biesecker, Brooke Hager and Kelly Green finished second by 0.3 seconds to Bayard, but qualified for state, nonetheless.
Biesecker also qualified for state in the 300 meter hurdles for Kimball. Caleb Reuter of Kimball qualified for state in the 800 meter dash and Ali Hunsaker made the cut for the 400 meter dash. Pole vaulter Austin Pile will also join his Longhorns teammates in Omaha on Saturday.
Reuter won his event at the District Meet at Perkins County by less than half a second, coming in with a time of 2:07.6, followed closely by Dan Sullivan of Chase County, who posted a 2:08.0.
The Potter-Dix 4x400 meter relay team took home a first place finish at the Chappell District Competition. Cameron Purcell, Kelsey Rozelle, Luke Johnson and Brady Knigge posted a time of 3:46.40, and were followed by Hay Springs, Garden County and Sioux County - in that order.
Knigge came in second in the boys varsity long jump, with a final distance of 20-02.25. Andres Mendoze of Minatare won first place with a jump of 20-07.25.
Cody Aure of Potter-Dix finished second in the varsity shot put, and Steven Bryant Knigge won the boys varsity pole vault event, with a height of 11-04.00. Kaidee Livingstone won the girls pole vault event, jumping a height of 9-01.00.
Tyson Dahlgren of Banner County won the boys varsity 300 meter hurdles, with a time of 44.10, which narrowly edged Layne McCarthy of Garden County, who finished just two-tenths of a second behind.
Jake Johnson of Potter-Dix ran a 5:00.00 1600 meter run, which was the best time by nearly ten seconds of the eight competitors.
The boys varsity 4x100 meter relay for Potter-Dix finished second with a time of 47.10, just half a second behind Garden County.
Kate Woten of Potter-Dix won the girls 3200 meter run with a time of 13:14.20, and was followed by Amanda Harrison of Banner County.
State Championships will be held in Omaha this weekend, starting on Friday.
