Kimball FFA notches several achievements, recognitions at State Convention

The Kimball FFA was well represented at the 85th Nebraska State FFA Convention in both the Leadership Skills Events and the Career Development Events. Kimball FFA had several high individuals and multiple teams that were recognized with top honors. The chapter also had one State Degree recipient.

Of the 10 teams Kimball took to state, 9 were in the top 50 percent of their competition.

For the medals and placing, the Junior Parliamentary Procedure Team competed against 24 other teams. They received a Gold Emblem, placing 8th High Team. The Senior Parliamentary Procedure Team also competed against 24 teams receiving a Silver Emblem, placing 12th. In Junior Prepared Public Speaking Michael Ferguson was 5th high speaker of 24 contestants. Ag Sales earned the honor of 2nd high team competing against 42 other schools.

The Livestock Evaluation teams competed against 74 other teams. The Junior Livestock Judging Team was 5th in Swine, 6th in Beef, with Tyler Shaw earning the top ten spot as the 8th High Individual Overall.

Overall the Junior Livestock Judging Team was 6th High Team. The Senior Livestock Judging Team was 1st in Beef, 5th in Oral Reasons, placing 7th Overall. Tessa Shaw was named the 6th High Individual Overall. This makes three consecutive years for Tessa to earn a top 10 spot at the State Contest.

The Agricultural Mechanics team did not fall short in the 42 teams placing 8th Overall. Brian Evertson was the 4th high individual. Meats Evaluation Team represented Kimball with a top 20 finish out of 80 teams.

In the Floral Design contest the Kimball individual’s were 28th out of 40 teams. The Agriscience team was comprised of freshman. These individual’s represented well with a top 30 finish out of 95 teams.

The Environmental and Natural Resource Team ended the day contests with a 36th place finish out of 73 teams. Kimball’s State Degree recipient this year was Kasee Copeland.

This is the second highest degree that an FFA member may achieve. If she chooses to do so, her next step would to be to pursue her American Degree.

Coming up on April 27th is the next big event for the Kimball FFA Chapter. At 6:30 p.m. The Annual FFA Banquet will take place.

The FFA Banquet is utilized to recognize students’ performance throughout the year. The members will recap the year with a slide show pertaining to the year’s activities and awards, say goodbye to our seniors, and elect the new officer team for the 2013-2014 school year.
