Superintendent To Step Down

The Board of Education accepted the resignation of current Superintendent of Kimball Public Schools Troy Unzicker at their February 11 meeting.

Unzicker will be leaving Kimball Public Schools at the end of the current school year in order to take over as Superintendent in Alliance, Nebraska.

“Alliance appeared to me to be a similar situation to Kimball, a lot of community support. They’re a little farther advanced than us in the technology process within the school. They have things they’re ahead of us, and they have things where they’re behind us,” Unzicker said

According to Unzicker, the resignation stems from an opportunity for career advancement.

“Finally completing my doctorate, I felt that I was at the level where I needed to advance. It was a great opportunity for professional advancement,” Unzicker said.

Though the move will offer a great professional benefit, Unzicker admits that it will be hard to leave Kimball.

“Kimball I love. It’s going to be hard to leave Kimball. The board and I have worked so hard together, and it was really hard to tell them I was going to look. The same thing goes with the staff. I have great relationships with everybody. I didn’t really have any other reason to leave Kimball than it’s a great opportunity for advancement,” Unzicker said.

Unzicker also seems optimistic not only about the potential advancement for himself but also the advancement that could come to Kimball when a new superintendent is found.

“It’s time for new blood in Kimball. Some times that’s good to have those fresh set of eyes come in and shake things up a little bit and get people fired up again. We try, but a new set of eyes will help,” Unzicker said.

Unzicker has served as Superintendent of Kimball Public Schools for the past seven years. His last day of work will be June 28.

His wife, Susan, works for Kimball Junior-Senior High School and will presumably leave her position at the same time.
