Banner County Girls Fall To Coyotes

The Potter-Dix Coyotes were able to come out with a win in their match against the Banner County Wildcats January 25.

The win comes off the heels of another loss to their rivals, the Leyton Warriors.

“I feel pretty good. This was a good win,” Potter Dix player Taylor Juelfs said.

The Coyotes pulled away from the Wildcats early in the first quarter with a seven point run before the Wildcats were able to get on the board with Amanda Harrison hitting a shot off a pass from Haleigh White with 2:54 left to go in the quarter putting the score at 7-2.

The Potter-Dix press was able to keep the Wildcats from scoring again the rest of the quarter ending it with an 11 point lead

The Wildcats tried to come back in the first quarter with Dalle Rutledge scoring off a pass from Ashlynne Hanan putting the score at 13-4 with Potter-Dix holding a 9 point lead.

The Coyotes pulled away from the Wildcats for the rest of the half leaving the score at 29-6.

Banner County tried to move the ball around in the third quarter, but they kept getting trapped by the Potter-Dix defense making any penetration near the hoop impossible. The Wildcats weren’t able to score again until White hit a shot with 17 seconds left to go in the third quarter putting the score at 43-8.

“We turned the ball over way too many times. We did some things well, but with other things we shot ourselves in the foot,” Banner County Coach Brittany Cooper said.

The Wildcats got some shots to fall in the fourth quarter with Hanan hitting a shot off a pass from Harrison with 4:51 left to go with the game. In the final moments of the game, Harrison was able to drive down the court for a layup, drawing a foul from Potter-Dix’s Jourdan Langley for a 3 point play.

“In the last half, I feel like we had a lot better shots and a lot better looks. I feel like we improved that way,” Hanan said of her team’s performance.

Ultimately, Potter-Dix walked away with a 56-17 victory.

“After the last week, we’ve had some letdowns. Tonight, everything came together, and the girls played well together, Potter-Dix Coach Jeff Einspahr said.
