Coyotes Girls Squad Escapes In MAC Thriller

The Potter-Dix Coyotes took third place in the MAC Tournament Saturday, January 19, with a win over the Garden County Eagles.

“We didn’t want to feel the same as Thursday night. We knew we had to pick it up,” Potter-Dix’s Morgan Wolff said.

The game started rough for the Coyotes with Garden County pulling away in the first quarter by nine leaving the score at 11-2.

The Coyotes came out swinging in the 2nd quarter with Taylor Juelfs scoring off of a pass by Conner Wolff in their first play out of the gate. Potter Dix kept chipping away at the Lady Eagles lead ending the quarter 21-15 with Garden County ahead by six points.

The third quarter belonged to the Coyotes, overtaking the Eagles 24-22 with 5:54 to go in the quarter with Amanda Maas banking in a shot from the side of the hoop off a pass from Morgan Wolff. The Potter-Dix defense was able to hold off Garden County with a full court press ending the quarter with a 5 point lead at 33-28.

“We started to play a little better in the second quarter, and I think that carried over to the third quarter. At half time, I just told them that we need to keep getting the ball inside and working the ball inside,” Head Coach Jeff Einspahr said.

Garden County fought back in the 4th quarter, leaving the score tied at 40-40 with 28.2 seconds left in the game.

Tensions were high as Conner Wolf drove to the basket off a pass by Juelfs and was fouled by Garden County’s Tileen Sullivan sending Wolff to the line for 2 shots. She missed the first but hit the second putting the Coyotes ahead by one point.

“We had to calm down and relax, because if we get to fouling, we were in trouble,” Morgan Wolff said.

The Eagles’ Tileen Sullivan put up a shot off a pass from Baily Davis with seconds left to go in the game that bounced off the rim. Fortunately for the Coyotes, Conner Wolff was able to get the rebound and hold the ball as the clock ran out solidifying their victory 41-40.

“We kind of just squeaked by on this game, but it’s a good win. We’ll take it,” Einspahr said.
