Kimball Boys Outlast Bayard

Austin Pile looks to Caleb Reuter on a fast break. Pile had 3 steals while Reuter tallied 20 points.

The Longhorns survived on Saturday, besting Bayard 51-42. But for a time Kimball’s final December contest looked like an upset in the making. Bayard entered the day with a 2-3 record while Bruce Tjosvold’s side swept the home tournament and two more games in fine style.

So the outcome may have seemed inevitable.

But the visitors jumped out to a 4-0 advantage and held on despite a flurry of Caleb Reuter power moves to claim an 8-8 draw at the end of one.

“We overlooked them,” Zach Rockhold-O’Brien admitted. “And shots weren’t falling.”
