Potter Dix Girls Split In Weekend Play

The Potter-Dix Varsity Girls team started off strong against the Paxton Tigers on December 8. Unfortunately, they could not keep the momentum going the rest of the game.

Kaidee Livingstone put the Coyotes on the board from the free throw line with 7:16 left to go in the first quarter with Conner Wolff pushing the Coyotes to an early lead with four points of her own leaving the score at 5-2 with 6:44 left to go in the first quarter.

The Tigers quickly started to cut away at the Coyotes lead with Brekkan Martinosky of the Paxton team putting the Tigers within four points from the free throw line. Paxton evened the score with 2:53 left to go in the first quarter with a 3 point play by Taylor Holzfaster, pushing ahead with their first lead shortly after with a free throw by Emma Holz leaving the score 11-10.

It seemed as though the Coyotes would be able to take back the lead until the end of the first quarter when everything completely shifted. The Tigers scored five points in the last thirty seconds of the quarter giving them a six point lead over the Coyotes.

The second quarter only increased the Potter-Dix deficit with Paxton keeping them at gaining only four points while scoring 15 of their own putting the score at 31-14. The Coyotes were never able to catch up to the lead Paxton gained at the end of the first quarter, ultimately losing the game 58-27.

“We couldn’t handle their press. The press affected us, and it just snowballed from there. We just got outplayed today,” said Coyotes Head Coach Jeff Einspahr.

The game also saw a few injuries to a couple Potter-Dix players with Taylor Juelfs colliding with Leanne Gamet of the Paxton sqad at the end of the third quarter, causing her to sit out of the rest of the game with a bloody nose. Bailey Long of the Potter-Dix team was also caught with an elbow to the face in the first that resulted in a gash in her lip, keeping her sidelined until after halftime.

Long says about the game that the main problem was teamwork.

“We didn’t have any teamwork at all. We weren’t working together. We weren’t passing . It just all fell apart. We definitely need to work on our press break and defense,” she explained.

The night before, Potter-Dix’s girls toppled Creek Valley, 48-41, behind Conner Wolff’s 19 point effort.
