The weekend storm that hit the Kimball area shut down I-80 and Highway 71, forcing double lines of trucks to wait for the roads to reopen. Kimball County commissioners Rich Flores, and Carl Stander voted to approve, if necessary, on Tuesday, March 19, the transfer of $210,000 from the inheritance fund to the general fund to pay KCTS payroll and bills due to a holdup in state funding. The discussion prior to the vote focused on cutting transit services, such as shutting routes down. MAYWOOD--After a middling 11-11 performance during the regular season, the Potter-Dix Coyote boys basketball team had a tall task ahead of them, as they had to travel as the number 15 seed to match up with number 2 seed Maywood-Hayes Center in the D2-2 District Final. It proved to be the final regular game of the season for the girls team, as Hyannis cancelled their trip to Potter on Saturday due to the weather. On Friday night, February 2, the Lady Coyotes of Potter-Dix had a big win over the visiting Garden County Lady Eagles, while the Potter-Dix boys were unable to get the win against their Garden County counterparts. The Kimball County campaign season is underway at this early date for the May 14 primary. Challenger David R. Hottell (not the sheriff) and incumbent Carl Stander are off and running. They already have filed as Republicans in the election for a seat on the county Board of Commissioners. The Coyote basketball teams opened 2024 with a challenging task, games against rivals Bayard and South Platte. The boys team was able to grab wins in both contests, while the Lady Coyotes struggled with losses in their first contests of the new year.
