Potter-Dix’s Coyote Track and Field teams traveled to Leyton High School on Saturday for the MAC High School Meet, and the girls’ squad placed third out of eight teams with 58 points, and the boys’ squad finished fourth out of seven teams with 95 points. Potter-Dix’s Trap Shooting Club as been in full swing since March, with their Friday competitions improving the scores of their members every week. Competing in the U.S.A. Clay Target League of junior and senior high students, the 13 members of the Coyote team shoot every Friday and enter their scores weekly. “This is a very laid back activity where the kids can relax, shoot and improve without any pressure. Potter-Dix's Coyote Track and Field teams traveled across the border into Wyoming to compete at the Kendra Roeder Invitational at Pine Bluffs High School. Both teams finished seventh in fields of 11 teams, and held their own against some of the toughest competition in the Panhandle and eastern Wyoming area. Creek Valley High School hosted the annual Tri-State Meet, and area schools all competed on a sunny day with a warm breeze. Spectators and competitors that did not liberally apply sunscreen found that they had a good sunburn by the beginning of the afternoon. The competition was dominated by the St. Patrick’s team out of North Platte, with the girls squad taking first place with 128 points and the boys squad also taking first with 131.5 points. On Tuesday, April 11, Mitchell High School hosted the Mitchell Invitational at Scenic Knolls Golf Course. The challenging course and a hot day got the best of most of the area school’s golfers, and the Sidney team managed a fifth place finish with a 347, edged out for fourth by one stroke by Alliance with a 346. Cool temperatures with bright sunshine greeted the participants of the Bayard CD Invitational Track & Field Meet Saturday morning at Bayard High School. The public hearing for Kimball County's one-and-six year plan for roads opened to a packed room. The main concern on the road improvement plan was Road 59, otherwise known as the Dix road. The county's plan included grinding up seven miles of pavement and returning that part of the road to gravel. County Road Superintendent Randy Bymer explained that there was an additional plan not to tear up the road and do a chip seal project on it. Potter-Dix Activities Director Cory Michelman contacted the Sidney Sun-Telegraph, a partner of the Observer, with a wrap-up of the Coyote boy’s basketball season, which we have re-printed in part for this edition. We knew coming in that the potential talent was going to make for an exciting year, however, players were going to need to buy into a culture that embraced higher standards and take on roles that may push them out of their comfort zones for the betterment of the team as a whole. Potter-Dix's Coyote boys basketball team had another great year, running up a 19-5 record and going through stretches of the season where they looked unbeatable. There were very few weaknesses on the team, although one proved to be their undoing in the district Final game. Potter-Dix's Coyote boys basketball team finished their strong season with a loss to Chadron, but had no problem regrouping and breezing through the Subdistricts and coming away with the D2-11 crown. Potter-Dix FFA began the new school year with a new advisor, Miss Monica Wasielewski. The Officer team began a new tradition of feeding the local farmers at the Kimball and Potter elevators. This is just one method the chapter has done to give back to the community. In the fall of 2022, the Potter-Dix FFA went to Westco's FFA Field Day and Husker Harvest Day. The Kimball Longhorns girls basketball team hosted their final home game of the season last Tuesday against the Pine Bluffs Hornets. The Longhorns second half shooting drought led the Hornets to victory with a final score of 46-34. The team holds a record of 1-18 and is currently 0-3 in district play. The team is rebuilding stage with the majority of the athletes consisting of underclassman. The Longhorns graduated all five starting members from last season.
