    The Kimball City Council approved one liquor license and delayed one while seeking more training at its Dec. 16 meeting. Dedra R. Murray requested a liquor license for the Big Mamou Steakhouse, which was approved. After that, an application for a liquor license renewal came in from Shopko Hometown #700, from manager James E.   • FirsTier completes matching grant to KAF

    FirsTier Bank presented a $9,500 check to the Kimball Area Foundation Monday morning to wrap up a $100,000 matching grant that began in 2006. For every $1.50 that the KAF raised, FirsTier Bank donated $1 to the organization during the duration of the grant.   • Kimball students raise funds for Hershey student with cancer

    Students at Kimball Junior/Senior High raised $2,845 last week for Hershey High School junior Paige Larchick, who was diagnosed with leukemia this fall. The funds were raised by allowing students to pay for wearing caps and pajamas on certain days last week, and allowing teachers to wear jeans for $5. There was also a contest to see which class could donate the most funds, and a kiss-the-pig contest, where funds were raised by putting money in the jars for school administrators. The fundraiser...

    The Kimball County Commissioners asked Sheriff Harry Gillway about the use of vehicles during the Dec. 16 meeting. Commissioner Tim Nolting expressed concern for a subject that had been brought to his attention several times recently regarding the use of sheriff’s office vehicles. “I have had a few people call me telling me that the sheriff’s vehicles were at Cabela’s and that they were unmarked.     On Saturday, 10 students from the Kimball High School Interact Club helped put together holiday food baskets for families in Kimball County. This program is organized by the local Rotary Club and MainStreet Market allows the use of its store to put the food baskets together. The students put together 70 food baskets that contained various canned goods, eggs, milk, stuffing, rolls, and either a ham or turkey.     Mary Kay Morgan, 67, of Rapid City, S.D., died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. Mary Catherine O'Brien was born to John and Leona (Popetz) O'Brien on Feb. 22, 1947 in Omaha. She grew up and went to school in Kimball, graduating from Kimball High School. On July 10, 1965 she married Robert "Bob" Morgan in Kimball. They moved to Fort Lee, Va., where Bob was stationed with the U.S Army. In January of 1966 Mary Kay and Bob returned to Kimball.     Leyton pulled away in the second quarter and held off Banner County for a 48-40 win on Friday. The two teams were nip and tuck throughout the first quarter.     Turnovers haunted the Banner County girls in a 60-33 home loss on Friday against Leyton. The Lady Wildcats (1-5) held close early before turnovers proved the difference in the defeat.
