  • Banner County gears up for 2014 Cattlemen's Ball

    The annual Cattlemen's Ball of Nebraska will be coming to Banner County in June of 2014. The ball, which was started in 1997 by a group of beef industry leaders, is held every year throughout different parts of the state serving as a way to raise funds for cancer research at the Fred and Pamela Buffett Cancer Center at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, according to Co-Chairman of the 2014 Cattlemen's Ball Monty Stoddard.   • High Point Welcome Center recognized by the state

    The High Point Welcome Center of Western Nebraska held an open house on Friday December 6. Despite the cold weather there was a nice turnout. There was holiday music being played and hot beverages available for the taking. All showed their support for this lovely place that welcomes travelers to Kimball.     Thomas "Tom" James Gardner, 53, of Kimball, died at his home in Kimball on December 6, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at the First English Lutheran Church in Kimball with Pastor Amanda Esping officiating. Burial will be in the Kimball Cemetery.     The Kimball High girls wound up second at their own four- team tournament they hosted this past weekend as the 2013-14 basketball season officially opened. After a sound showing Friday night, and win over Southeast, with Kimball winning 43-25, they went up against perhaps the best team they will face this season resulting in a 63-46 loss to Dundy County/ Stratton in the championship game.   • Kimball boys champions at Kimball tourney

    The Kimball High boys got the season off to a great start by winning their own four team tournament this past weekend to open up the 2013-14 basketball season. The Horns won over Southeast 75-41 on Friday night and handled Dundy County/Stratton 71-44 in the championship game Saturday evening. Dundy County won over Morrill in the other first round game 76-29, and Southeast defeated Morrill 52-19 to take third place honors.     A great start for the 2013 Kimball High Wrestling Team as they picked up wins over Mitchell (39-30), and Morrill (42-18) in the season opening matches at the Mitchell Triangular this past week.
