The sidewalks on 2nd Street in Kimball were lined with local adults and youths as they eagerly anticipated the start of the Parade of Lights the night of Saturday, November 30. The air was biting as the lights of the fire truck beamed in the distance as residents looked on bundled up in coats, gloves and scarfs. The closing event for Marketing Hometown America was held Tuesday, November 26 at the Kimball Event Center. Approximately 70 participants packed into the Meadowlark room of the Event Center as the small groups involved in the process hung up their plans of the best way to market the Kimball area on the walls around the room and prepared to give presentations. The Kimball County Jail, located in the courthouse, is facing the cost of much needed repairs to its plumbing system. According to Kimball County Jail Administrator Linda Williams, the system which was installed in the 1920s has worn down with time and will need to be partially reconstructed. "All the plumbing here is really showing its stress. There's a lot of rotten out places," Williams said. Midland University’s President, Ben Sasse, is known as the Anti-Obamacare Candidate for Nebraska Senate. He has never held an elected office, however, he has strong opinions about what is happening here in Nebraska, as well as in Washington. Ellen L. Pinkerton, 78, of Kimball, died at the Kimball County Manor on Monday, November 25, 2013. Glennis Fern Fischer of Warrenton, VA died on December 2, 2013 at Blue Ridge Christian Home, Bealeton, VA. She was born on September 18, 1929 in Kimball, NE to the late Charles J. and Eva Mae Foster. She was also preceded in death by her husband Paul D. Fischer and her son Daryl Fischer. Glennis served her country in the US Navy and worked for Giant Food Store in Warrenton in the bakery. In a pre-season, exhibition basketball game Monday night on the Kimball court, the Class B Scottsbluff boys won over Kimball 53-41. The contest,where the gate receipts are turned over to the NSAA to be used to fund the Nebraska High School Hall of Fame, attracted a good turnout of fans who wanted to see what both teams are going to have to offer this season, which gets underway this weekend.
