The Kimball City Council met with a full agenda on Tuesday, Nov. 16, with a variety of discussion items. Topping the list of items was the approval of needed new sidewalks, gutters, pavement, ADA ramps, and pads at Dollar General. The council had expected two bids but only received one from Hennings Construction, Inc., Gering, for $14,120.74. The weather will determine when the project will begin and be completed. Everyone, including the school kids, seems to be getting into the holiday spirit. Thanks to the Mary Lynch Elementary School kindergarten students for explaining the meaning of Thanksgiving. Alex said, "It means more presents," while Ryder decided, "It means we eat a big turkey." But Gunner and CJ are wise beyond their years. Here's another installment of the Observer's series on community newcomers. This time it's Keri Foster. According to new resident Keri Foster, Kimball is the "most warm, welcoming place." From day one, she made friends in the community and found a church family. "I can't say enough," she said about the community. The local Christmas season arrives officially Saturday, Nov. 27, with a lineup of festivities four full weeks before the holiday. More than 40 years of service on the Kimball County Ambulance was recognized last Saturday at the Kimball Health Services early Christmas party. Bob "Sparky" Dunkin, a lifelong Kimball resident, started on the local ambulance crew in 1980, not long after graduating high school. His faithful service to local patients as a part-time ambulance driver and EMT ended with his retirement in March. Kimball Junior High wrestlers put in some competitive performances back-to-back in tournaments at Hemingford on Nov. 12 and Morrill on Nov. 27. A number of young Longhorns earned first place. The historic season that the Potter-Dix Coyote football team enjoyed came to a disappointing end Friday night in Ron and Carol Cope Stadium at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, as they fell to the Cody-Kilgore Cowboys by a final score of 65-37. The Coyotes' run fell just short of a state championship as the Cody-Kilgore running attack proved to be too much for the Coyotes to stop for four quarters.
