A line of communication is established between the city of Kimball and the owner of the building that houses the Shopko Hometown store expected to close by the end of February. Both parties share a goal: finding a new business tenant or tenants to fill the building at 1217 S. Highway 71. A fire of suspicious nature on Friday night, Jan. 4, destroyed an automobile next to a carport on the north side of U.S. Highway 30 in Dix, the Dix Volunteer Fire Department reported. Dix firefighters said a Nebraska State Fire Marshall's Office investigator concluded that the blaze was not accidental or naturally occurring. A stop sign violation led to methamphetamine charges involving 10 to 27 grams for two Scottsbluff residents. According to the arrest affidavit, on Dec. 27 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Nebraska State Trooper I. Jaramillo was stationary observing the stop sign at the intersection of Old Highway 71 and Highway 71 in Kimball County when a silver passenger vehicle violated the stop sign. A Kimball man, Shane Serrano, has been scheduled for sentencing for terroristic threats made against Kimball police officers in July 2018. Judge Derek Weimer on Jan. 8 scheduled the sentencing in Kimball County District Court. The sentencing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Feb. 5. Kimball Wrestling Club, Tri-State Grapplers and the Banner County MatCats were at it again last weekend before a huge crowd in Scottsbluff at the Battle in the Bluffs Wrestling Tournament.
