The City of Kimball recently accepted ownership of the building that once housed the Longhorn Restaurant. Once taxes are paid on the building, which has been deemed unsafe, it will be removed from the tax roles as the City works on grants to begin addressing the dangers. The old Arabian Motel got a new lease on life as an extended stay complex named Red Door Rentals, complete with an in-house coffee house, The Daily Grind. At the Oct. 16 Kimball City Council meeting the building’s owner, Terri Dyer, sought, and was granted, $3,873.50 in facade improvement funds to complete the signage, awning, outdoor lighting and windows. The Kimball Area Foundation Fund committee invites everyone to join them at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, at the east entrance of the trail for a grand opening celebration and a ribbon cutting ceremony. Kimball Police Department along with banks in the community urge residents to beware of new and old multi-billion dollar scams as well as counterfeit bills that may have made their way back into town. Volleyball season is getting down to the nitty gritty. The Lady Longhorns just got done with both of their conference tournaments coming out with three wins and three losses, along with a non tournament game losing to Perkins County. In the SPVA tournament on Oct. 13 they lost to Chase County, beat Perkins County and came back to play Bridgeport and fell to their opponent. It was a new year with a new look for Kimball High Girl’s Golf. Luke Maas took over the program and the former Potter-Dix golfer came in with enthusiasm and recruited a total of 7 girls to the program, and the program took an upswing. Of the 7 members, two were seniors trying the sport for the first time and they both said they enjoyed it very much. The Kimball High football season ended on a winning note with the Longhorns winning at Bayard 44-42! With the victory at Bayard, the Horns finished with 4 wins and 4 losses in their first season playing the game 8-man style after years of 11-man style. The win at Bayard pitted two teams with identical records of 3 and 4 coming into the season finale, and it was a nail biter from start to finish. All of the local High School sports for the Fall season are over with exception of volleyball and the Kimball High Lady Longhorns will move into sub-district tournament play on Monday at Scottsbluff, but at the time of this writing, the pairings had not been determined.
