    Although results from the Nebraska State of Schools report indicate positive trends throughout much of the state, the numbers offer little comfort to the Kimball Public School system.   • Recent flu clinic serves hundreds of local residents

    Getting the flu vaccine was no big deal for about 300 participants at Saturday’s Kimball Health Services’ flu clinic at the former West Elementary School building. In fact, it was one of the best turnouts in years for the annual community flu clinic, held just in time for the traditional start of flu season.     Foul weather, including threeinches of rain on Monday, cancelled the first day of the Girl’s Class C Golf Tournament reducing it to just a one day and 18-hole affair on Tuesday at the Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus.     The Kimball High football team was idle this past weekend and used the bye week to prepare for a very important contest with the Bridgeport Bulldogs tomorrow night (Friday) on the latter’s home field.     Fyrne I. Shepard, 90, of Kimball, died at the Kimball County Manor on Thursday, October 10, 2013. Cremation has been held. Graveside memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at the Kimball Cemetery. Friends may view the Book of Memories and leave condolences for the family at www.cantrellfh.com . Memorials may be given to the Giving Tree through the Kimball Rotary in Fyrne’s memory.     Susan Kay Olsen age 47, died in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, October 15, 2013 after her brave battle with cancer. Born September 23, 1966 in Kimball, Nebraska, she lived in Kimball, Harrisburg and Scottsbluff before settling in Alliance. Susan attended Western Nebraska Community College in Sidney and Alliance.
