  • Jury duty - right and responsibility

    Tonia Copeland|Oct 4, 2018

Editor’s note: This is the first of two stories planned regarding jury duty. Please see next week’s Western Nebraska Observer for more information. Let’s talk fundamental rights. One right guaranteed to Americans is the right to a trial by jury. This is written into the United States and Nebraska Constitutions. Our justice system depends on citizens to serve as jurors and make important decisions in court cases. Kimball County Clerk of the District Court, Deb Diemoz, wants to remind residents of the importance of service. Diemoz would also...

  • New activities and old favorites renewed at 2018 Farmer's Day

    Tonia Copeland|Oct 4, 2018

Farmer's Day 2018 had many new activities to enjoy along with several familiar festivities, but one thing was missed by many – the car show. According to committee member Assunta Nelson, the longtime chairperson for the event stepped down and no one else stepped up. This is something that she, and the entire committee along with the community, hopes to remedy next year. Anyone interested in helping the committee is welcome and particularly if there is a specific event one wants to see. Regardles...

    Tonia Copeland|Oct 4, 2018

The Farmer's Day Demolition Derby was another exciting show for spectators on Saturday evening, with one car getting turned on its side and another ablaze, it was maybe a little too exciting for emergency workers on scene. The derby is an annual event that the Kimball Ag Society puts on for the town-wide local celebration. "The Ag Society works hard each year to make this a great event for contestants and spectators alike," coordinator Mark Vowers said. Kimball saw 34 entries this year, with...

  • Letter to the Editor

    Oct 4, 2018

The Farmer’s Day Committee would like to thank everyone who contributed, volunteered, participated and enjoyed all the events last weekend. We hope everyone liked having more events downtown and the gorgeous weather this year! Without the City’s support it would not be possible for Kimball to have such a great celebration. There are many volunteers whose donation of time and resources make Farmer’s Day epic. It would be a large list to thank them all individually and we would run the risk of forgetting someone. The key ingredient to makin...
