    Jim Orr, The Observer|Oct 3, 2019

For 2019 Farmer's Day grand marshals Susan and Dave Haack, their big day turned out to be 45 years in the making. They were married 45 years to the day – on a long-ago Farmer's Day – before serving as grand marshals of their community's 93rd annual local celebration. "Oh, my gosh," Susan said. " We were so surprised and honored by the award and to be chosen as grand marshals." The inscription on that award, a silver plate, is simple and meaningful to them: "Grand Marshals. Dave and Susan... Full story

That's how many food items each side collected in the friendly battle to help the local food bank. Stephanie Pedersen of KHS human resources said the competition evolved after she read an article about the food bank being low on food. She thought about a challenge between KHS departments. Then she talked with her husband, Chauncey....

Book sales are appreciated by the public and also help the library by clearing out books and making money for the Friends to fund the library for extra programing and supplies and the annual swimming pool party. The Kimball High girls golf team played in their final two tournaments this past week as they have only their District Tournament play remaining and hopefully a qualification for the State Tournament. In their final two warm up, and regular season tournaments, they had a sad appearance, and then another very good showing. The not-so-good showing was at the Ogallala Tournament on a Tuesday where the Kimball ladies failed to place a single golfer in the top medal group. It took a round of 92 to... Full story

    Tom Southard, The Observer|Oct 3, 2019

The Kimball High football team saw their record fall to 1 and 3 following a 55-12 loss on the road to Hemingford Friday night. The Horns have suffered some injuries that hurt their cause, and they have faced three very strong 8-man football teams already. Christian Allen-VanPelt, a hard nosed junior, was pushed into a new role Friday with senior quarterback Brendan Walker sidelined with injury problems and did an admirable job for Kimball but the posing game hurt to some degree. VanPelt gave Kimball a short lived lead with his 23 yard...

Jon Heidemann desigmed the 5-mile and 3-mile routes, helping organize the small races and accompanying the adults around the trail. Parents and volunteers also helped watch the street corners, stood at the railroad crossing and timed the events. Gavin Williams did the 10-mile race, and his time was a little under 1 hour. Getting an absolute acc...
