The Kimball Public Library Book Sale started the 94th Annual Farmer's Day off on Friday afternoon with a large crowd of bookworms getting a bag of books for bargain prices. Following the book sale was the Kimball Community Trail Fund bike races in downtown Kimball. Although the number of riders was small everyone was able to win a prize. The Kimball High Girl's Golf Team closeout out the regular season this past week with tournaments at Ogallala and Bridgeport and moved into District Tournament play this past Monday back at Ogallala. The Kimball Nutrition establishment held its open house on Saturday, Sept. 19, in the renovated Longhorn Building. Owners Brittanie Shaw and Kye Hudson have nutrition stores in Scottsbluff and Gering and now one in Kimball. Joshua James Warren, a senior, 17, of Bridgeport, Nebraska, was suddenly taken from us extremely too soon. Potter-Dix's Coyote Football team continued their undefeated start and moved to 4-and-0 on the season by defeating the favored Arthur County Wolves at Combs Field Friday night. The Kimball High football program is suffering right now with a low number of athletes checked out which in turn results and not being able to match up with their opponents and the losses keep piling up. The Horns had to drop to the 8-man game because of the lack of numbers, and at their last game I noted they had only 14 players suited. Kimball's Longhorn Cross Country team traveled to Ogallala on Thursday, and the boys squad placed 14th overall in the team competition. Kimball's top finisher was sophomore Matthew Johnson in 53rd place with a time of 20:14.7 followed by freshman Braylon Miller in 69th place at 21:30.1. In this crazy year of the COVID-19 Pandemic, as might be expected, the number of Runners for the annual Farmer's Day Fun Run were way down, according to the organizer Tiffany Johnson. There were only 53 runners who participated this year and only 1 runner who went the 5 mile distance. That hardy soul was Steve Knigge who runs events all over the United States. Kimball's Lady Longhorn Volleyball team has had a tough time getting wins, but were able to grab one this week in the three matches they played. Last Tuesday the 22nd, Kimball traveled to Hershey and were overpowered by the Lady Panthers in straight sets, 25-to-3, 25-to-12 and 25-to-8. The Kimball squad was outhit 34-to-8 in the loss. Kimball's Longhorn Football team continued to struggle as the fell 70-to-28 to the Perkins County Plainsmen in a game that saw the visitors take an early lead and pull away for a lopsided victory. Plagued by five turnovers, with four in the first quarter alone, the Longhorns were unable to avoid the costly mistakes that have kept them winless so far this season. Potter-Dix's Lady Coyote Volleyball team has had success so far in the season, but went through a difficult week, losing four of five matches, with the last two losses coming at a home tournament on Saturday.
