The people who bring Farmers Day to Kimball every year are the volunteers. It takes dozens and dozens of people willing to give their time and energy to make a successful Farmers Day. This includes the chairmen of the committees down to those cleaning up, and it is not just one day of volunteering, it takes months of planning and paperwork. New events, such as the quilt show and the bike race, would not happen without a few dedicated people directing and organizing the events. What a difference...

Heading north out of Kimball on Highway 71, the last thing in late summer that you would expect to see is a group of people picking grapes from a vineyard and rocking to their music. Gayle Marie Grimm, 79, of Gering, passed away at home on September 21, 2021. Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, September 27 and her funeral service was at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 28, both at Dugan Kramer Funeral Chapel in Scottsbluff. Donald E. Buddecke, 77, passed away September 21, 2021 in Fort Mohave, AZ. He was born in Kimball on Dec. 16, 1943 to Catharine and Antone Buddecke and was 1 of 13 children. Kimball was his home for over 70 years. In 1964, Don married Dee Lilla Nuss and they raised their family of 3 children in Kimball. The Kimball Longhorn cross county team was in action at the Ogallala Invite on Sept. 23. In the varsity girls division, Chantel Malson competed against the Ogallala, Cozad, Gothenburg, McCook and Chadron girls. She ran in 26th place with a time of 22:44. Participating in the varsity boys division and leading the Kimball team was Braylon Miller in 69th place against some tough competition. Miller ran in 20:51. The winning time was 16:54. Braxton MIller, the rising Kimball junior high runner, beat all competition and all ages in the 40th annual Farmers Day Fun Run's 2 mile race last Saturday. Miller won handily with a time of 13:54. Runner-up Connor Cluff clocked in at 14:26 and Trey Cook was third in 14:28. In the 5 mile race, it was Steve Knigge first. Potter-Dix’s Coyote Football team is ranked number 2 in the Six-Man standings and has had little trouble with their competition early in the season. But they Coyotes had a true test on Friday as they traveled to Arthur to match up against the number 5 ranked Arthur County Wolves in an early-afternoon game. Kimball’s Lady Longhorns volleyball team play in the WTC Tournament at Mitchell this week. The first round opponent is Bayard at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The tournament follows a stretch in which the team remained winless before hosting Pine Bluffs on Tuesday, Oct. 28, this week.
