    Just past mile marker eighteen on the bypass Shane Tucker, Highway Salvage Paleontologist with the University of Nebraska State Museum Lincoln, has unearthed a six to eight million-year-old tortoise shell. Tucker's job is an interesting one, as the Nebraska Roads Department builds new roads he follows along and looks for possible fossils in the earth.   • Camp Grace holds carnival at Welchel farm in Banner County

    Over the weekend Camp Grace held their annual carnival fundraiser, which was attended by many members of the community. Camp Grace is a non-profit farm therapy camp. One of the only of it's kind in the United States, Camp Grace is a place that helps children with varied abilities. Generally the children who attend require some form of physical, speech, or occupational therapy.     Madie Snyder, Dead Eye Shooters 4-H Club member, attended shooting competitions this summer and returned with several medals. Madie Snyder is a junior in high school. Ken was born in Denver, CO on April 26, 1943 to parents Angelita and Kenneth Newman. He was raised on the family farm in Hoxie, KS and graduated from Sheridan County High School in 1961.     The Kimball High Longhorn Football Team suffered their first loss of the season Friday night at Keith Staehr Field losing to Southern Valley 20-17 just when it looked like they had a win locked up.     The Lady Longhorn Volleyball Team opened the season at Bridgeport this past Thursday evening and brought home a marathon four set victory. Set scores saw Kimball prevail 25-15, 30-32, 32-30, 25-14. Coach Vicki Mitchell said "I was most proud of our girls for never giving up and for keeping the good attitude even when we got behind.     Kimball High senior Jaycie Walker picked up 2 more medals to keep her streak alive at 4 as she captured 2nd place at the Kimball Invitational Golf Tournament finishing 1 stroke out of first with her round of 103, and then took 5th place at the Creek valley Tournament with her round of 102. As reported last week, Miss Walker put in a summer of hard work trying to improve her game and it is certainly paying off.
