    Looking back on her life, Maxine James put it simply, "I have enjoyed life, no complaints. I have my health; you've got a lot if you have your health." Maxine will hit the 1-0-3 mark on Sept. 11. She was born in 1916, which was before the United States even entered World War I. She was born in York, one of 11 children.     Known as the Western Motel, built in 1962 along Highway 30 in the midst of Kimball's oil and missile boom, this 57-year old-motel has seen and heard probably everything that Kimball could offer. A few years ago if you drove by the place, it was completely trashed. But now, you can see that Cindy Jaquess and Robby Wilson have done an outstanding job of making the old motel presentable.   • Dix Woman Found Guilty Of Perjury

    Four men and eight women found Jean Childs of Dix guilty of the crime of perjury on Friday, Aug. 30, in Kimball District Court. The jury took just over an hour to determine her guilt. Jean Childs was represented by public defender Lindsay Snyder, while Special Prosecutor Paul Schaub prosecuted the perjury case. The perjury charges stem from an investigation in February 2016 and a trial in August 2016.   • Military Vehicle Convoy Overnights At Gotte Park

    Kimball rolled out the red carpet for the Military Vehicle Preservation Association convoy on their 38 day, 3,200 mile trek across the country. The convoy, between 40-50 vehicles, overnighted at Gotte Park on August 29. The town celebrated the convoy and military service, and the celebration was complete with entertainment and a V.F.W. hamburger feed.     Highlight of the opening week of Kimball High School Fall Sports is of course the new Kimball school record round of golf shot by sophomore Payton Wise. The talented young lady won the Bayard Tournament with her awesome round of 46-35=81 for her second top ten medal in the opening week as she finished 9th at the Sidney Tournament in the season opener. Last year, as a freshman, Payton was a state qualifier and state medal winner, and also tied the Kimball school record of 82 that Loni Janicek shot back in 1999.     The Kimball High Longhorn Football Team suffered a 62-20 loss to the visiting Garden County Eagles in the season opener for both teams in 8-man football action this past weekend. It took parts of two days to get the game completed as the contest was called off Friday evening due to lightning delays that wouldn't go away.     The Kimball High Girls Golf Team got the season underway at the Sidney Tournament this past week on a Tuesday and came right back to play at Bayard on Thursday. Sophomore Payton Wise brought home medals from both outings, with a 9th place finish at Sidney and a 1st place finish at Bayard where she had the best 18 holes of golf ever played by a Kimball High Lady golfer!     The Kimball Longhorn Cross Country Team opened the season at the Scottsbluff Panhandle Classic Invite this past Thursday evening and the highlight for coach Tiffany Johnson’s runners was a top 25 medal performance by sophomore Chantel Malson, who finished 22nd in the field of 107 runners in the female division. Malson, a sophomore, ran the 5,000 meter course at the Riverside Golf Course in 23 minutes 46.29 seconds. The winning time by Regan Hodsen of Mitchell was 20:33.53.
