    Timothy Sinks, 23, formerly of Kimball, was issued a court citation on Aug. 4 based on a recent Department of Health and Human Services intake evaluation. Sinks is cited with five counts of child abuse, stemming from allegations made on July 6 of this year. While working at the Kimball Childcare Center that day, he allegedly told five children “that if they wanted to go outside, they would have to drink from a puddle,” according to Kimball Police Chief Darren Huff. “This all spawned from a DHHS intake, and there was enough probable cause that h...

  • Council nixes event center repair bids, seeks new plan

    The Kimball City Council rejected a pair of bids for renovation of the Kimball Event Center and decided to seek a new repair plan at the Aug. 18 regularly scheduled meeting. The council expected a cost of just under $700,000 for upgrades according to the engineer’s estimate. Some of those upgrades are necessary to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.     Virgil Johnson began serving his community long before coming to Kimball County and landing in Dix 20 years ago. Johnson, the pastor at Dix Bible Church, spent time as a missionary in Africa. He lives in Dix with his wife, Susan, and their children.   • Flooding causes need for detour on CR49

    The Kimball County Commissioners inked an agreement with a local landowner for temporary use of a portion of his land while a road is repaired. The commissioners approved an agreement with Troy Carruthers to use a portion of his land surrounding County Road 49 south of Interstate 80 as a detour while the road is repaired. The heavy rains caused flooding on the road earlier this month and made a portion of it unpassable, said County Highway Superintendent Dave Hotell.
