The Kimball City Council met on July 11 to discuss, among other things, the future of the Kimball Event Center as the municipality enters the 2017-2018 budget planning period. Never ending weeds here in Kimball County, Rick Wangler, County Weed Superintendent, addressed the board at the Commissioners meeting Tuesday, July 18. Wangler stated he feels like he’s taking one step forward and two steps back trying to keep up with spraying as well as inspections this summer. With all of the work Wangler continues to do throughout the county, he also takes care of some work within city limits. A few teachers represented a concerned and proactive group of Kimball educators at the recent Board of Education meeting following a discussion last month about increasing academic standards. Kimball welcomes a new business that is in the business of caring for and teaching young children. The Alphabet Academy has made its way to Kimball and is ready to care for local children aged 6 weeks and older. Another walk across the country, Erin Parete is making her way east to west across America. From her starting point in Rhode Island on March 25, 2017, Erin Parete is more than half way done with her cross country trek. Her plan is to follow I-80 up through Wyoming and into Utah, just before reaching Salt Lake City, Utah, she will head north into Idaho, then will walk west to her final destination outside of Portland Oregon. A field of golfers turned out for the Ladies Panhandle Senior Golf Tournament Monday at the Four Winds Golf Course. The format of the day was a 4-person scramble and some of our local Kimball ladies fared well. Alene Schilz was a member of the winning team that shot a handicap score of 56.98. Jean Barrett and Judy Brighton were both on the second place team that shot 60.50.
