    LINCOLN – Tom Southard made it. The longtime Observer sportswriter has been selected posthumously for induction into the Nebraska Journalism Hall of Fame.   • Banner County Treasurer Resigns

    Banner County Treasurer Monty Stoddard submitted his resignation to the Banner County Commissioners on July 5. The resignation was accepted by the commissioners and will be effective at the end of July. Stoddard began as Banner County Treasurer in 2011 and was slated for re-election in November. His name is no longer on the ballot. He and Banner County Assessor Bernice Huffman were found guilty by Scotts Bluff County Court Judge Kris Mickey of public indecency in an incident that occurred Dec. 28 at the Banner County Courthouse.   • New Activity Bus Bought For Schools

    The purchase of a new activity bus topped the action items for the Kimball School Board at its monthly meeting in July. To upgrade the bus fleet and maintain a rotation, the board opted to purchase a 2023 Thomas activity bus. With two bus trade-ins, the new activity bus will cost $179,765. The current activity bus is a 2011 model and has over 150,000 miles on it. The delivery time for the new bus is estimated to be March 2023. Graphics/mascot lettering will be available upon arrival.     Last week from July 6-8 we held our second annual Kimball Longhorns Youth Basketball Camp at the high school and had a lot of fun working with the young athletes. This year we had a total 55 participants who took advantage of this camp, ranging from incoming first-graders to eighth-graders.     Vince's Corner Double Draw ABCD Golf Tournament concluded just before a few thunderstorms came through the area on Sunday evening. The two-day event welcomed 152 golfers and hosted 38 teams.
