    The High Point Welcome Center is officially open for business.     Kanalihoppers Restaurant and Spirits, a new restaurant which just opened up in the building that used to house Mulligan’s Restaurant right next to the Kimball Golf Course, is already setting off discussions around town with everybody wondering what exactly the name comes from.   • Drought conditions continue to ravage Western Nebraska

    A Kimball man was stabbed at Lake Minatare shortly before 10 p.m. on the night of July 3. Michael Kudebeh, 38, of Kimball sustained a knife wound to the chest, which was non-life threatening. According to Kudebeh, a 17-year combat veteran of the United State Navy, a white Honda Prelude pulled up near him at Lake Minatare while his wife was at the store picking up some supplies for the holiday weekend, when two men got out of the vehicle.     A new presence has come to Kimball in the form of Mr. Marshall Lewis who has taken over the Superintendent of Kimball Public Schools position recently vacated by Troy Unzicker. Lewis comes to Kimball from Belmond, Iowa where he most recently served as the Superintendent of the Belmond-Klemme School District for three years. "I'm an Iowa boy from the beginning.     The Dead Eye Shooters made an impressive showing at the Daisy National BB gun and Air Rifle competition in Rogers, Arkansas this past week, coming back home to Kimball with 11 medals. “I thought they went fantastic.     Frances Mae (Hanzel) Wackel, 87, formerly of Kimball, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln. Frances (Fran) was born June 24, 1926 in Yankton, South Dakota to Edward and Agnes Hanzel. Surviving Fran is her husband of 66 years, Nick Wackel.
