Kelsey Herzberger, who works for the United States Post office here in Kimball, called 911 on Saturday, May 21, to report seeing a rattlesnake in the road on Crestwood Drive. The dispatcher on duty called an officer and the response was to advise the reporting party to handle the situation herself. Kimball's Aashlyn Rawlings, along with her brother and some friends, went on quite the adventure this past week. Rawlings met Shia LaBeouf the star of "Transformers", "Holes", and Disney's "Even Stevens". Kimball Public Library's six-week summer reading program got off to a great start. As of Friday, May 27, 60 youth were registered from Kindergarten through sixth grade, according to director, Jan Sears, with the pre-school session yet to begin and scheduled for Friday, June 3. While the teen session, Get in the Game, has eight students registered, Sears said there is room for more. Likewise with the adult summer program, though 11 are already signed up. Nearly 100 interested parties prompted the beginning of a new youth tumbling class in Kimball, according to Bob Nemnich Executive Director of the Terry and Hazeldeane Carpenter Intergenerational Center in Terrytown. The Center offers similar classes in Terrytown and Nemnich said that within the first year those classes doubled in attendance. “We are trying to get kids in Kimball, Bushnell, Potter, Dix and even Sidney,” Nemnich said. “With classes offered in Kimball they won’t have to drive so far to participate.” Registration will be June 4 fr...
Sheila Gay Connell Taylor, age 62, died in Omaha on May 10, 2016 with her family at her side. Sheila was born on March 15, 1954 in Lincoln, the middle child of Richard and Bonnie (Barnett) Krueger. She attended District 15 country school through the fifth grade and graduated from Norris Consolidated Schools in May of 1972. Lavonne E. Christensen, 69, of Potter, died at Sidney Regional Medical Center on Saturday, May 28, 2016. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2016 at the Prairie West Christian Church in Potter with Pastor Betsy Galloway-Carew officiating. Janet R. Dickenson, 74, of Kimball, died at Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming on Saturday, May 28, 2016. I’m writing this to tell the people in Kimball what a Wonderful group of people they have in their Sheriff’s department and also their Police department. On the 20th of May, my sister and I were on our way to Colorado to attend my great-granddaughter’s graduation service in Eaton, Colo., when I developed car problems just as I got to Kimball. Kimball's Jordan Greenwood finished just 2 strokes from winning the 2016 Nebraska Class C Boy's Golf Tournament that took place this week at the Kearney Country Club Golf Course. The outstanding junior picked up his third state golf medal with his best finish yet, winding up runner up for the championship with his two day total of 151 with Brook Klinetobe of Stanton winning the medalist honor with his score of 149. With the exception of some All Star Games, summer camps, and summer league play in various sports, the area High School sport season is over. It ended with the boy’s state golf tournaments and Kimball sent their team to the Class C Tournament held at the Kearney Country Club Course where they finished 6th out of 15 teams and junior Jordan Greenwood wound up 2nd individually out of 89 golfers!
