A press release was issued from Kimball Police Chief Andy Bremer this week stating that at approximately 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2019, Kimball Police captured a fugitive wanted out of Laramie County, Wyoming, on two felony warrants. Lonnie Lieurance was taken into custody on a felony traffic stop conducted by Kimball Police and the Kimball County Sheriff's Office. Long-time resident Jim O'Brien celebrated his 80th birthday on Saturday at the Eagles. He was caught off guard by a presentation to him from the Kimball Hospital Foundation. Jim served 18 years on the Foundation Board. The award read: "Your input as a long-time citizen, business owner and especially your many years of service on the Kimball County Ambulance Service have been especially valuable and gave a unique perspective on helping us fulfill our mission to serve the community." Mike's Greenhouse on the corner of Burg and 2nd Street has just about any plant the weekend gardener might need or want. For the past five years, Mike Schepker along with helper Karen Munoz (his mom) has been open for locals to get their tomato, pepper, cucumbers and other bedding plants. The City of Kimball employees have been hard at it in order to get the town shaped up for the summer season. The Street Department is "kind of the city custodians" according to Jim Shoup, Street Department Supervisor. The snow put a damper on their work but they have been busy mowing the highway right of ways, the parks and the city's empty lots. The 2019 Nebraska Boy's State Golf Tournament did not play out as planned thanks to some nasty weather that cancelled out the two day format, limiting it to just one day and 18 holes of play. The second "Take The Buckin' Pool Tournament" is in the books, and managed to have a pretty good turnout even with all of the lake-goers of Memorial Day weekend. The Jon Howton Memorial proceeds were to be donated to the SPNRD-Oliver Reservoir. Totals have yet to be determined but look for a photo and amounts in an upcoming edition of the Observer.
