New improvements at the Kimball Public Swimming Pool have manager, Carla Goranson excited to get the pool open again this summer, though forecasted weather may delay the opening. A simple traffic stop led to the arrest of a California man in Kimball on Tuesday, May 17. According to an affidavit obtained from the Kimball County Court, Nebraska State Patrol Trooper L. J. Kelley was patrolling east on I-80 when he observed a vehicle change lanes without using a turn signal. Kelley stopped the vehicle, driven by Peter E. Larry Woken, Jr., 86, of Ogallala and formerly of Bushnell, died Tuesday, May 10, 2016, in Great Plains Health in North Platte. Larry was born August 13, 1929, in Aneta, North Dakota, to Ethel (Bruhn) and Larry Woken, Sr. After his father’s death, the family moved to Minnesota in the early 1930’s. Jaden Withrow had a season best triple jump at the right time resulting in a Class C, triple jump, state championship at Omaha Burke Stadium this past Friday! The 2016 Kimball High track season is over with the completion of the State meet held this past weekend. The highlight story is of course Kimball High’s Jaden Withrow winning a gold medal in the Class C triple jump and a fourth place in the long jump.
