  • Farm Service Agency holds meeting to help farmers understand Farm Bill

    Recently the 2014 Farm Bill was passed and that means some changes are being implemented to what is eligible for payout. On Thursday, April 17, Robert Nagel, Executive Director of the local Farm Service Agency (FSA) held a meeting for livestock producers in order to inform them of some of the changes. The first program introduced by Nagel was the Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP). “What LIP does is it reimburses producers for losses above normal mortality for animals that died during a natural disaster,” Nagel said.     Two tournaments to report from the past week concerning the Kimball High boys' golf team and two more outstanding performances by senior Henry Heeg. On April 22, the Longhorns participated in the Morrill Tournament and Heeg shot a round of 37-38=75 to finish 3rd, actually one stroke behind team mate Jordan Greenwood who shot his season best round of 38-36=84 to take second place honors.     Highlights were many for the Kimball High Track Team at the George Calvert Track and Field Meet held in Mitchell this past Friday afternoon with many athletes establishing new personal bests for the season, but top highlight was the record setting win in the girls’ 300 meter hurdles by sophomore Madison Biesecker as she kept her win streak alive with the record breaking time of 49.54, a personal best.     A new cell tower was discussed by the City of Kimball Planning Commission at their meeting Monday, April 21, where the proposal became a subject of, at times, heated debate. The proposal for a 75 foot cell tower that would sit at 3948 Road 34 North in Kimball was submitted to the commission via an application for a conditional use permit by Henry Jacobsen of Northeast Colorado Cellular speaking on behalf of Viaero Wireless.   • TeamMates hold one hour walk

    TeamMates Mentoring Program was founded in 1991. The group's purpose being to provide a good adult example in school aged children's lives in addition to parents and teachers. The Kimball chapter of the TeamMates recently held the Ken Risk One Hour Walk. Kim Baliman has been a TeamMates board member since the Kimball chapter's inception ten years ago and has been a mentor in the program for the last five years.
