The local resident and some wonderful volunteers took the Easter egg hunt to the homes of local children in order to bring some normalcy to them during this very unusual time. Hickman and company prepared 1,300 eggs, visited 42 houses and did their best to make Easter normal for 102 children. Her team of...

This was meeting was conducted via Zoom due to the coronavirus, and the new format created few problems. • Banner County Notes: Never Too Late To Try Harder!

    Barb Cross, The Observer|Apr 16, 2020

Good morning! Here is hoping you all had a very nice Easter, if not a very unusual one. We sure did, but we have a lot to be thankful for. Have one kid still at home and two more that are close enough to come often, which sure helps. Plus we had Easter services on the tube. You can go there at harrisburgcommunitychurch.org. Many other services are on line now, too. Our kid registered to vote online since he will be able to vote this year and for the first time in my life I am voting by mail. I have been told that change is good and sometimes...

  • Kimball Kruisers

    Daria Anderson-Faden, The Observer|Apr 16, 2020

The second Kimball Kruise Night during the coronavirus pandemic was Friday evening. More than 130 vehicles were cruising the main drag of Kimball from 6:30 to 7:30. A variety of cars hit the streets, including a 1957 Chevy pickup occupied by Marv and Rosalee Lewellen, while another vehicle paid tribute to the pandemic heroes, and Jacob, Jenny, Jonny, John and Michelle Withrow waved to other kruisers from their Jeep. The Husker themed Kruise Night gave people a chance to get out of the house and...

    Daria Anderson-Faden, The Observer|Apr 16, 2020

Kimball School Board appears to be the most sought after position in the local elections as nine candidates are vying for three positions. The Observer presented the candidates with questions and requested a photo. Although many voters will be voting early by mail, the primary is May 12 and the nine candidates will be narrowed down to six individuals for the general election. Jennifer Griebel I was born and raised in Colorado, but shortly after nursing school I moved to Kimball, Nebraska where I met my husband (also a Colorado native) and we...

  • While I Have My Record Sheets Out ...

    Tom Southard, Jock Talk|Apr 16, 2020

The only local and area sporting activities that are taking place, as far as I know of at least, is open golf at the Four Winds Golf Course. By direction of Nebraska State officials, there will be no organized golf, which includes league play and tournaments, until at least June 1, and at that time it could be given the OK, or maybe not. It could be worse as Colorado has closed all their golf courses to any kind of play. What Might Have Been I was looking back to see what our Kimball High... Full story

  • This Week's Sports Rewind: April 14, 1968

    Tom Southard, The Observer|Apr 16, 2020

Looking back 52 years ago, this is a story I read on my KIMB Radio Sports show. It concerns my coverage of the Sidney Invitational Track and Field meet. The names of Pat O’Brien and Barry Frederick should be recognized to even you newcomers to the Kimball area as they are both still residents and quite active in our community, but I can guarantee they are not as fast now as they were back in their glory days! Local News (Sports) April 14, 1968 Darrell Brown shone for the Longhorns in the Sidney Invitation track and field meet held yesterday in...
