Kimball City Council heard they were doing a good job keeping costs down at the March 20 City Council meeting. Michael Hoback of Almquist, Maltzahn, Galloway and Luth, CPA, presented the audit report for the 2016-17 fiscal year. Hoback reviewed the funds in each budget for council, as well as, revenue and expenses. Children in Kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to learn more about Cub Scouts at the local recruitment night, Tuesday, April 17 at 5:30 p.m. in Kimball’s City Park. In case of rain, the recruitment night will take place across the street at Trinity United Methodist Church in Kimball. Scouts in Kindergarten enter as Lions, they progress to Tiger in first grade, then progressively to Wolf, Bear, first year Webelos and second year Webelos. Laurie Ann Shaw, 57 of Potter was called home to the Lord on March 29, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, April 3rd in the St. John's Lutheran Church in Kimball with Pastor Kenneth Mars officiating. Burial will follow in the Dix Cemetery. Dolores (Dee) Anne Atkins Horton Dolores (Dee) Anne Atkins Horton of Greeley, Colorado, went home to be with her Gracious Heavenly Father on March 21, 2018 at the age of 77. The Kimball High Boy's Golf Team opened their season at the Gering Quad this past week in an event that was not on the original schedule. It involved the hosting Gering team, Scottsbluff, Mitchell and Kimball. No team score was kept and there were 35 golfers total, including 8 Kimball golfers. Kimball had lots of highlights at the Bayard C-D Track Invite, but none better than the gold medal wins by Brady Kilgore and Jaden Mohr, both in the boy’s division. The Kimball boys scored 34 points to finish 6th in the field of 18 schools. Kilgore racked up his 3rd consecutive win in the 110 meter hurdles winning the gold with his improved time of 15.2 on a cold and dreary track day. Payge Hoffman and Trinity Langley accounted for a good share of the scoring for the Potter-Dix Girls at the Bayard C-D Track Invite this past week, with both bringing home gold medals. Hoffman got her gold in winning the long jump with a leap of 15’3” and Langley took home the gold in the high jump, clearing 5’0” to win the event. MaKenna Dahlgrin was a double gold medal winner for the Banner County High Girls at the Bayard C-D Track Invite this past week and her 20 points placed the Lady Wildcats in 12th place in the team standings of the field of 18 schools. Community members at the Kimball Senior Friendship Center invited Scott Mallory, of Carr Spirits, to present the local business' story and product. Mallory joined the group on Wednesday, March 28, to introduce them to Adelaide's, a tasty liqueur distributed by the company. The summer of 2018 might be a busy one for local park crews and volunteers, if plans and projects for the local parks move forward as quickly as Mayor Keith Prunty hopes. A public follow-up meeting was held on Wednesday, March 28, to determine priorities for both Gotte Park and City Park as well as future plans.
