The disease, which took the life of the 14-year old youth and afflicted many other area residents in a variety of ways, was poliomyelitis. Poliomyelitis, more...

  • Easter Egg Hunts Come Home

    Daria Andersen-Faden, The Observer|Apr 2, 2020

The coronavirus has cancelled the "big" annual Easter Egg Hunt usually held at Kimball High School, but thanks to Dawn Hickman, Bob Hinton and families there will be many "little" Easter egg hunts at Kimball, Bushnell and Dix homes. This is a great service to the community in this unsettling time, and the tradition of the Easter egg hunt will continue. This is the fourth year that the Hinton and Hickman families have organized the hunt, but 2020 will be the most unusual and require the most...

Good morning! Here we are into the month of April, no foolin’! As you all are aware, we have changes, challenges and cancellations daily as we work our way through this virus. I was surprised to see that most of the eating establishments in the Scottsbluff/Gering area are still open for business and on that note still on schedule is the plan for Runza to join in with the Teammates Program on April 7. • Jock Talk: Sports? Yes, There's Still Some To Talk About

    Tom Southard, The Observer|Apr 2, 2020

All of the sanctioned season sports still on hold so not much to watch, and or, write about, but golf is being played at our Four Winds Golf Course and despite rather cool weather, a few hardy souls have been out getting some very fresh air. I have a hole-in-one to report this week as Tom Rooney of Cheyenne got an ace on March 25 on hole number 12 at the Four Winds using a nine iron on the 152 yard hole and playing partner Jim Mitchell witnessed the season’s first hole-in-one. SPVA Honorable Mention For Kimball Girls I have also received w... Full story

  • Big Mike In Spain

    Tom Southard, The Observer|Apr 2, 2020

Mike Daum is another outstanding Kimball High grad who, like Adam Bohac (see "Jock Talk" in this week's paper), set many Kimball High School records and excelled in the game of basketball. He went on to set many South Dakota State University scoring records and is now playing professionally in Spain, or should I be saying, was? Basketball is shut down in Spain because of the coronavirus scare, and Big Mike is sitting it out in his apartment waiting to see if the League is going to try and...
