    Spring is near and with it often comes severe weather. March 21-25 is Nebraska Severe Weather Awareness Week, and recently our county has installed the CodeRed system in the Kimball Sheriff’s office to help assure that Kimball residents are “weather-ready”. Sheriff Gillway, along with Kimball County’s General Assistant Coordinator, Linda Williams, were instrumental in gathering the information and ultimately doing most of the leg-work in obtaining the new system.     The Kimball City Council met on Tuesday, March 15 with a full agenda after previously voting to meet just once a month. Prior to the council meeting, the Board of Public Works met to consider a recommendation for the Z & S change order. That board recommending payment for the total that exceeded the original bid, more than $58,000. Council subsequently heard the Board of Public Works’ recommendation to issue payment for the additional charges from Z & S Construction for closure of the landfill cell and ultimately approved the expenditure. ...

    The Kimball High Wrestling program appears to be on the right track with improvement showed this past season and everyone returning next year. The highlight of the season was sophomore Garrett Pedersen qualifying for the State Tournament and charting a win at the state tourney. Pedersen wound up the year with a record of 16-16 for the team's best win-loss record. Pedersen wrestled at 120 pounds this season.
