    Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning, has thrown his hat in the ring in a late bid in the Republican race to become the next governor of the state of Nebraska. Bruning, who has served as the attorney general for the last 12 years, spent time last week campaigning throughout the panhandle, stopping in Kimball, Sidney, Scottsbluff and various other cities to sit down with small crowds and discuss the current issues facing Nebraskans and how he can serve to offer solutions.     Colonel Tom Brewer served thirty-six years in the military. During that time, he served in Desert Storm, was shot six times during an ambush, worked with CENTCOM to stop the trafficking of drugs through central Asia amd was selected to command the first task force to arrive in New Orleans in Response to Hurricane Katrina.   • Primary election to have limited ballot

    At the primary election on May 13, voters can expect to see a rather limited ballot. They will be able to vote concerning United States officials and state officials. However, they will not see any county, city, village, or board officials on the ballot just yet. This is because the number of filed applicants does not exceed the number of open chairs for any particular office.   • Longhorns fall to Freeman at state tourney

    Kimball's season came to an end with a first round loss in the Nebraska State C-2 boy s' basketball tournament losing 49-46 to Freeman in a hard fought contest. It was a game that saw Kimball get out to a 16-12 lead at the end of the first period of play, all tied at 22-22 at half time, and Freeman on top by 1 point going into the fourth quarter with the score at 37-36 at the end of the third period.   • WTC all conference basketball selections made

    Coaches of the Western Trails Conference have announced their selections for the all conference basketball teams and Kimball senior Mike Daum was named the boys' Most Valuable Player of the year. Senior team mate Jake Reader joins Daum on the all conference first team while juniors Colton Stull and Michael Ferguson were given honorable mention.   • Kimball wrestling program makes progress

    The future of the Kimball High Wrestling program is looking brighter and coach Wade Brashear is optimistic about the direction the program is going. I asked him to comment on the past season and where the program is headed. “As the season comes to a close, there was excellent progress made by the team. Even though we only finished with one state qualifier, the future for Kimball wrestling looks bright. We had no seniors on the team this year, so we will be returning all of our wrestlers.
