  • Flood waters invade Kimball County

    Kimball County was filled with surging waters as a flood left many local residents unable to leave their homes on county roads this past week. According to a U.S. Geological stream gauge on Lodgepole Creek at Bushnell, which feeds into the Oliver Reservoir, a peak flow volume of 960 cubit feet per second (cfs) was measured on the evening of Wednesday, March 5.     Wilson Bowling, Economic Development Director for the City of Kimball, recently returned from a trip where he visited several small town Nebraska theaters. Bowling compiled the information he gathered on his trip and presented it before the city council at their meeting on Tuesday, March 4.   • City officials deal with burst water pipe on north side

    A burst water pipe on the north side of Kimball left residents without water through Wednesday night, March 5, as Water Department employees worked to get the gushing water under control. According to David Ford, City of Kimball Water Superintendent, the problems started the afternoon of Tuesday, March 3, when employees went to inspect what appeared to be a service line leak.     If a person were to suffer some sort of stroke or their heart stopped, the body would stop receiving oxygenated blood. It would take four to six minutes of a lack of oxygenated blood for the brain to begin to die. Brain death would be certain after six to ten minutes. Without an ambulance service, it would take an ambulance out of Sidney 40 minutes to reach the patient. According to the scenario previously mentioned, that would mean death for someone suffering from lack of oxygenated blood. Thankfully, Kimball does have an ambulance service.... Full story

    Betty Jean (Oeltjen) Johnson, 80, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colo. Her funeral service were held Monday, March 10, at 10 a.m. at the First English Lutheran Church in Kimball with Pastor Amanda Esping officiating. Interment will be at Potter Cemetery.     The Kimball High boys' basketball team is headed back to Lincoln and the Nebraska State Basketball Tournament. They enjoyed the journey so much last year that they decided to do a repeat!
