    Kimball Hospital Foundation hit the jackpot with its Casino Night fundraiser. That's in terms of community support and money raised. More than 200 charitable gamblers filled Kimball Event Center on Saturday for Casino Night, raising about $10,500 for the organization that champions Kimball Health Services, foundation director Kerry Ferguson told the Observer.     A recently posted article on Facebook from NBC Nebraska-Scottsbluff reported that poverty levels in the Panhandle and community of Kimball are relatively higher than in some other areas and the state as a whole. With that kind of information going around, questions started to rise and fingers began to point.   • Head Start Faces Changes

    Preparations are being made for the preschool to close May 22 at the Kimball Head Start campus. Donna Jenne, director of ESU 13 Head Start Programs, thanked the Kimball community for its support as the program looks to make significant changes in the 2019-20 school year.     Karter J. Hottell, 2, of Kimball, died at Children's Hospital in Aurora, Colorado, on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2019, at the Cantrell Funeral Home in Kimball with Chaplain Lawrence Leathemron Jr. officiating.     The end is just about here for the Kimball Shopko Hometown store on Highway 71. Shopko is expected to close its doors for good 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2. The company announced late last year that the store was among 39 in 17 states closing for reasons involving sales trends and business outlook. A pair of big wins came this past week, in which he was the spearhead, as he piles on more points and more rebounds.     Wrestlers from the Kimball area are gearing up for state tourney time and heading to as many tournaments as possible. On Feb. 23, Ethan Bibbey of the Tri-State Grapplers attended the Laramie Cowboy Club Tournament,and went 3-0 to finish first in the 6 and Under, 42 division.
