But he s...

Trey now has the opportunity to complete in the Midwest Spelling Bee in Omaha on March 28. Second place speller Landon Norberg, an eighth-grader, misspelled "hazmat." • You Can Kiss It Goodbye

    Barb Cross, The Observer|Feb 27, 2020

Good morning Banner County, and here we are kissing the month of February goodbye. We even have an extra day and it still is short and has gone by pretty fast. It is still yet to be seen as to whether March will bring us kite flying weather or high winds that blow millions of tumbleweeds and move a good part of Wyoming into Nebraska. This school year has been an interesting one here at Harrisburg with the four day school week. They do have five day weeks occasionally, and this week is one of both. School was scheduled for Monday, Tuesday,...

  • Bogus $50 Bills Passed In Sidney

    Daria Anderson-Faden, The Observer|Feb 27, 2020

Sidney convenience stores have been hit with fake $50 bills recently. As of Tuesday, three of the bills have been passed off. Usually the perpetrator tries to catch the business when it is very busy and people are standing in line. It is done very quickly and the attendant doesn’t use the bank pen to analyze the bogus bills due to the hectic time. According to Sidney Police Chief Joe Aikens, investigators have video of the individual they suspect passed the bill and it is not a traveler – it is a local person. He said he is confident that the p...

The Kimball High boys basketball team had its final home game this past Friday highlighted by the honoring of the senior players and their parents prior to tip off. With 8 senior boys on the 12 member roster, I think it is safe in saying that next season may be the biggest rebuilding year ever at Kimball High! The Kimball boys lost this final home game to a very strong Mitchell team, but they entertained the crowd like they have done all four years with some good effort and good team play. They seem to enjoy each other and for the most part,...

No medals for the four wrestlers who represented Kimball High at the 2020 Nebraska State Wrestling Tournament, but a lot of experience, and a lot of memories, some good and some bad, for the young men who made the trip. For senior Stephen Bateman, it was a painful experience, and he will have a painful memory of the experience of wrestling in his first state tournament. Stephen wrestled Marcus Cave of Weeping Water in his first and only match at Omaha and was doing a good job against the...
