    Apex Sand and Gravel, along with Paul Reed Construction, will continue to work in the Kimball County area this year. Apex received an approval for a conditional use permit application at the Kimball County Commissioners meeting Tuesday, Feb. 5.   • Panhandle Tourism Coalition Gets $4,000

    Getting the good word out about the Nebraska Panhandle has received a boost. The Nebraska Tourism Commission has awarded a $4,000 grant to the Western Nebraska Tourism Coalition, which serves the Kimball area, to participate in a “social media blitz” and banner marketing.     Average gasoline prices Monday were $2.14 per gallon in Kimball, 2 cents lower than last week, the Western Nebraska Observer’s survey of local gas stations shows. That price is 3 cents higher than the statewide average of $2.11 and 11 cents lower than the national average of $2.25 that GasBuddy reported Monday. GasBuddy, which releases weekly gas price reports, said average Nebraska prices at 1,150 stations were 7.3 cents lower than a week ago, 52 cents lower than a year ago and unchanged from a month ago.     The K-Town Takedown wrapped up this past Sunday afternoon after a long eventful day. Kimball hosted their home meet with 200 wrestlers from the surrounding areas. Out of the 22 teams in attendance. Kimball Wrestling Club finished third with 207 points with Scottsbluff Wrestling Club in second with 282.5 and Gering Wrestling Club in first with 326 points.     The Kimball High girls brought home medals from their third place finish in winning the consolation championship at this year's Western Trails Conference Basketball Tournament, completed this past Saturday at Cougar Palace in Scottsbluff.     Stephen Bateman, Kimball heavyweight, took 3rd place at the combined Western Trails and SPVA Conference Wrestling Tournaments held in Bridgeport this past week. Bateman had a good day in taking 3rd place honors at 285 pounds winning 3 matches and losing only 1. All 3 of his wins were by pin including a :37 second fall over Jones of Bayard.     Potter-Dix hosted a JV tournament last week. The tournament included girls teams from Burns, South Platte, Kimball and Creek Valley.     The Kimball High boys failed to get past the first round in Western Trails Conference Tournament play this past week, losing at Bayard 40-31. With the first round loss, the Longhorns were eliminated from advancing to additional play at Cougar Palace. Bayard suffered a 79-46 loss to Mitchell in semifinal play and lost to Hemingford 78-75 in the consolation finals to end up 4th.     Kimball firefighters responded at approximately 1p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7 to a fire that destroyed the home of Sandy and Randy Harmon at 304 S. Burg St. in Kimball.
