    Two public hearing will be held on Feb. 7, 2023, at the next Kimball County Commissioners meeting. At 9:30 a.m., a public hearing is scheduled for comment on the adoption of Ordinance 2023-1 concerning Snow Emergency and Abandoned Vehicles on county roads. This appears to be a problem because when the interstate and state roads are shut down due to the weather conditions, then GPS will take travelers on the county roads, and those roads have not been cleared.   • KCTS To Lease Vans From County

    The Kimball County Commissioners on Tuesday approved an agreement between Kimball County and Kimball County Transit Service to lease six new transit vehicles. All six vehicles are 2022 Ford 350 EL vans, ranging in price from $190,991.52 to $205,225.92. The total lease payments will amount to $1,185,804 over a period of three years for the six 10-passenger transit vans.   • Another Midweek Storm For Kimball

    Here we go again. Another midweek dose of severe winter weather was forecast for Kimball County and surrounding areas this week. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning and forecast on Tuesday that 6 to 9 inches of snow could hit the area. Some other forecasts called for more snow.     Construction carries on as Kimball's new $43.5 million hospital continues to take shape, but this area's harsh winter weather may have slowed the development a bit. "The project has experienced about a week's delay due to the snowy conditions this winter," Kerry Ferguson, Kimball Health Services director of community and foundation, told the Observer on Monday. The son of Willis Henderson Gilmore and Dorothy Reed Gilmore, Reed was born on August 6, 1933, in Fort Worth, Texas. His family moved to Penwell, Texas, where his father worked the West Texas oilfields before moving to Midland, Texas, where Reed was raised and attended Midland Public Schools.     The injury bug has hit the Kimball Longhorn Wrestling team this week. Derek Kauffman's season was ended in the beginning of the week with another shoulder injury that will result in season ending shoulder surgery. He finished the year with a 10-8 record at 170. In the middle of the week, 106 pounder senior Matthew Johnson suffered a shoulder injury in practice that will sideline him for hopefully only a week or so.     The Kimball Longhorns boys basketball team was 3-9 on the season but continuing to battle hard following Monday's 50-47 loss to Perkins County in a first round SPVA matchup.
