    Daria Anderson-Faden and Larry Engstrom won election to the Kimball County Commission, and Keith Prunty will be the new mayor of the City of Kimball after Tuesday's midterm election. The proposed tax levy for the Plains Historical Society passed, while the proposed tax levy for the Kimball County Agricultural Society did not pass.     A month ago the Kimball High School civics class received $6,000 in KENO funds to bring motivational speaker and best selling author Sam Glenn to Kimball. On Oct. 30 in the high school auditorium, everyone was able to see what all the fuss was about. Glenn spoke three times in Kimball on that day. He spoke once for the junior high students, once for the high school students and for the community that evening.   • Hershey students thank Kimball fans

    Students from Hershey High School want to thank Kimball fans for the generosity they showed during a recent football game. On Oct. 17, the Longhorns traveled to Hershey for a game in which students and others in the stands wore orange ribbons in support of Paige Larchick, a junior at the school who was recently diagnosed with leukemia.   • Commissioners vote to renew wireless contract with Viaero

    Kimball County decided to renew its contract with Viaero wireless during Monday’s meeting of the county commissioners. The meeting was held Monday instead of the usual Tuesday date, due to the election. Before deciding to renew the wireless contract with Viaero, the commissioners directed County Clerk Cathy Sibal to look into the cell phone coverage in which the county reimburses its employees and see if they could be switched to Viaero.   • Committee seeks input on Oliver Reservoir

    The local advisory committee for Oliver Reservoir seeks input from Kimball County citizens. The committee held a public meeting last Thursday in which citizens were able to voice their thoughts and concerns. Those who could not attend may still submit input to Galen Wittrock of the South Platte Natural Resources District by calling 308-254-2377.     Several new faces cast their ballots for the first time on Tuesday. Jeri Ferguson, a Kimball High School civics teacher, led several of her students into the Kimball Event Center Tuesday to vote in the election.     Kimball County voters mirrored those of voters across the state and region in many non-local races. For governor and lieutenant governor, Kimball County voted heavily in favor of Republicans Pete Ricketts and Mike Foley. The two won 909 votes in the county, coming in at 75.12 percent. Democrats Chuck Hassebrook and Jane Reybould came in with 238 votes and 19.67 percent, while Libertarians Mark G. Ellworth Jr. and Scott Zimmerman had 63 votes and 5.21 percent.     The City of Kimball board of public works heard an update on Keep Kimball Beautiful at its Oct. 28 meeting. Larissa Binod, director of KKB, told the board that 117,660 pounds of materials were diverted and recycled from July through September. The office pack, cardboard route, alley way collection, alley cat trailers in Bushnell and Dix, and confidential document shredding has all contributed to the organization’s recycling efforts, she said.   • Tough second quarter hurts Coyotes in playoff loss to Paxton

    A tough second quarter put Potter-Dix behind early and the Coyotes could not recover in a 52-40 loss at Paxton last Thursday to open the football playoffs. The Coyotes took a 12-6 first quarter lead, but the Tigers outscored them 34-0 in the second quarter. Potter-Dix trailed 40-12 at halftime. Potter-Dix got back into the game in the third quarter, outscoring Paxton 20-6 to cut the deficit to 46-32.     It was a winning year of football for coach Nick Kuxhausen and his staff with 6 wins and only 3 losses for Kuxhausen in his second year as the head man. The Longhorns were so close to making the state playoffs in the year of the new format where the playoff teams in C-2 were cut from 32 to 16. Kimball ended up in a tie for the number 18 spot.
