    Looking back at the events of 2015, it is safe to say the events in and around Kimball have been exciting. We will revisit an appearance from Miss Nebraska, hiring a new Chamber of Commerce directors and then another as well as an assistant for the Veteran’s Service Officer. City leaders approved the purchase of a K-9 officer and a large employer further reduced its workforce following a buyout.   • Sunday accident brought new life

    A two vehicle accident east of the Dix exit on Interstate 80 sent two adults and a child to area hospitals Sunday, Jan. 3 around 7:30 a.m. According to Kimball Sheriff’s Deputy, Brandon Loy, the early morning accident occurred in the east bound lane, when Brittany N. Welch (22) of Augusta, Mich., attempted to pass an eastbound semi truck with a trailer in a 2011 Chrysler four door sedan.     December 31 marks the end of 2015 and the end of the Kimball Country Club, after nearly 90 years of association. On Thursday, Dec. 31, Kimball Country Club board members presented Mayor Keith Prunty and Barry Fredericks, Chairman of the Park and Recreation Board, with check for $91,093.24 in the lobby of FirsTier Bank in Kimball.     This week marks the sixth anniversary of the fire that destroyed the nationally registered historic stone building located at 126 S. Chestnut after nearly 115 years of operation. Once the "old stone store," the building was built from locally quarried limestone in 1894 and opened on January 5, 1895.   • Friends of the Goodhand Theater experience much local support

    According to Mayor Keith Prunty, the recent response from Kimball and the surrounding communities to reopen the Goodhand Theatre, has been very positive. The first informal meeting was held on Dec. 3, and the hopes are to have a functioning digital theater for the community to enjoy, stated the mayor. Although they are only in the beginning stages of trying to put together a non-profit in the name of Friends of the Goodhand, a board of directors and officers for the board are now in place.     Nathan Clay Grossnicklaus, 43, of Merryville, La went home to be with Jesus December 24, 2015. Nate was born in York, NE on August 21, 1972 to Gene and Mabel "Snookie" Grossnicklaus. He spent most of his growing up years in Kimball, NE where he excelled in sports, music, academics and took on many leadership roles. Nate had two sons who meant the world to him.     Kimball’s Kendall Ferguson is proving to be a leader and a mainstay for the Hastings College Men’s Basketball Team. Although he is listed as a senior and a starter, the 6’5” former Kimball High standout is actually more like a red-shirt freshman, as far as his collegiate basketball goes. Ferguson went to Hastings on a football scholarship, recruited as a quarterback prospect. He spent his first year trying to get playing time at that position.
