A press release was issued from Kimball Police Chief Andy Bremer this week stating that at approximately 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2019, Kimball Police captured a fugitive wanted out of Laramie County, Wyoming, on two felony warrants. Lonnie Lieurance was taken into custody on a felony traffic stop conducted by Kimball Police and the Kimball County Sheriff's Office. Last week the contractor poured the southeast and northeast paved swale that will be part of the decorative features between the rock slope and the new sidewalk - as well as completing the southeast sidewalk curb and pouring several pedestrian rail posts. The roadway curb was removed and replaced on the northeast side of the bridge. The headwalls were formed and poured on the northeast and southeast slope, and finish grading began on the slopes to prepare to replace the rock slope protection. Kimball Dead Eye Shooters 4-H Club BB Gun Team 1 placed 3rd in the 2019 Nebraska State 4-H BB Gun and Air Rifle Championships earning a trip to the Daisy National BB Gun Match in Rogers, Arkansas, this July. Hannah Stahl, a senior at Potter-Dix High School, won the Best Overall High School category for her artwork in the Youth Art Month art exhibit held at the State Capitol Building in Lincoln. Hannah's batik, "Waterlilies," has been on display in the rotunda of the capitol for the month of March. All artists were recognized at a ceremony at the State Capitol Building this past Saturday. Two area pool players earned cash prizes for their top performances in the American Poolplayers Association 8-Ball Fun and Cash tournament recently at the Silver Dollar and Fahey's Public House in Sidney. Karrie Brawner from Kimball finished in second place and Marty Couch from Lodgepole took third. Ninth grade students from across the region attended Nebraska Extension's Connecting the Dots Career Exploration Program at Sidney High School on March 5. Nearly 150 students spent the morning exploring their skills, learning to write a good resume and how to behave in an interview. In October 2016 the City of Kimball participated in a housing study through Western Nebraska Economic Development. The study identified that in order for Kimball County and the City of Kimball’s population to remain stable through 2021 we would need 92 new units in our community (combination or owner occupied and rental). The Kimball Lions Club recently conducted their yearly Hearing and Vision Screening for the students at Mary Lynch Elementary and Kimball Jr./Sr. High School. The screening is a free service offered by the Kimball Lions Club in conjunction with the Nebraska Lions Foundation and BlueCross Blue Shield of Nebraska. A community-wide tradition of honoring loved ones with a "Gift of Love" has reached its 25th year at Kimball Health Services. The Kimball Hospital Foundation invites residents to honor someone special in their life through the Foundation's Holiday Spirit program. With nine tournaments completed the Kimball Girl's Golf team has had a positive improvement year. At the start of the year, Lila Moore was getting back into the swing of things but struggling a little from little practice over the summer. Moore began her season shooting a 154. As the practices and tournaments progressed, she quickly improved and showed a very positive attitude. Moore ended regular season having a personal best of 114. Cowboy isn't just your average calf. From the very beginning, he was destined for great things.
